Dave Nix
Dave Nix is a partner in Bethel Nix Realty Company in Lamesa, Texas, and has agricultural and other real estate interests in Dawson, Gaines and Andrews Counties. After graduating from Texas State University in 1977, and attending graduate school at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, Dave returned to Lamesa in 1979, and has been active in a variety of industry and community affairs.
Governor George Bush appointed Nix to serve on the Agriculture Resources Protection Authority, where he served as Chairman from 1996 to 2005. Nix served as a Director for Cotton Incorporated from 1993 to 2002. He has served on the Permian Basin Center of Energy and Economic Development Advisory Committee and on the Deans Advisory Committee for the Texas Tech University College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Nix also served on the Plains Cotton Growers Cotton Improvement Committee.
Nix is a past-president of the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce, and was chairman of the Prison Task Force, responsible for attracting the Preston Smith Unit to Lamesa. He served as president of the Lamesa School Board for 8 years. Nix was also vice-president of the Lamesa Economic Development Corporation, president of Lamesa Cotton Growers, and has served as a board member of the Lamesa Industrial Foundation, the Dawson County United Way, and West Texas Opportunities. He is a member of the National Association of Realtors and the Texas Association of Realtors.
"West Texas has seen a tremendous increase in general economic activity because of higher oil prices, and the development of wind energy, among other things," stated Nix. "The increased truck traffic has been noticeable over the past few years, and I am just glad that the Ports-to-Plains Trade Corridor was already in place, and not just some drawing board dream. There is no question that the need is there for a safe, efficient transportation corridor in this part of the world, and I believe that the need will only increase over the next several decades. Ports-to-Plains is a vital link in the continued growth and prosperity of our region, and the United States as a whole."
