Max Howorth
Max Howorth was born and raised in Wickett, Texas (near Monahans). Since 1995, he has been owner/operator of a small ranch engaged in production of meat goats and cattle. He is a 1966 graduate from University of Texas El Paso with a bachelor's degree in business administration in accounting.
Max retired from Shell Oil Company USA and Global Shell Chemicals, Ltd. on January 1, 2000 where he had 34 years experience in the financial management, including accounting and financial services, business planning and economic analysis, performance analysis and management reporting, corporate, shareholder and SEC reporting, banking and cash management, auditing and internal controls, insurance and risk management, mergers & acquisitions, organizational re-design and change management, and international business.
Max received training from 1966-2000 with Shell Companies on numerous internal training programs that focused on improving social, business and management skills in areas such as Communication, Leadership, Change Management and Diversity Awareness. Other continued education training includes Fundamentals of Government, 1982, Brookings Institute, Washington D.C. and Organic Chemistry for Executives, 1990, Duke University.
Max currently serves as Secretary and Member of the Pension Review Board for the Sonora Fire Department; President and Managing Director for the Sonora Industrial Development Corporation; and he serves on the board for Keep Sonora Beautiful. He also serves as Chairman on The Sonora Tourism Steering Committee and Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Transportation Committee of Sonora and Sutton County.
He began his service to the Ports-to-Plains Board of Directors in 2005.
When asked about the importance of Ports-to-Plains, Max stated, "Sonora's location at the intersection of IH-10 and the Ports-to-Plains Trade Corridor US 277 puts us in a unique position for transportation-related economic development. We are striving to leverage our position for the betterment of the community and region."
Max has been married to Jimmie (Pool) Howorth for 47 years and his hobbies include photography, fly fishing and travel.
